“We finally bought a home for $22,000, one block from the hospital. This was a 3 bedroom two story with a single attached garage. It had a wonderful basement with fire place, recreation room, and a workshop area near the furnace.”

“…  David was born November 29, 1952. I could not have been more proud of these two boys than I was of the first born. They were all a joy to have and to hold. If I could only have had more time with them at that age.”

“The Navy kindly sent me a letter telling me I would have to return to service in February 1953. … We rented our house to Milo and Caroline and in February 1953 the family and I departed in our new Oldsmobile 98 and headed for Texas to get into warmer weather.”

“We finally reachd our destination, the Amphibian Base in Coronado, California. Oh how free and easy life was after the hectic pace of general practice and how great the warm sunny climate. I felt as if I were on an extended vacation.”

(Navy records show that George entered service 2/15/1953 and was discharged 8/1/1954.)

“ We moved into a house in Imperial Beach, south of the Strand where the Amphib Base was located. The Strand, a narrow strip of land between the ocean and the bay was to become our play ground on afternoons off from work.”
