“There were many parades in Coronado with lots of horses. The kids would sit on the curb street side and watch everyone as they passed. How they seemed to enjoy these outings.”

“I had become the doctor for the UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) and found that I had to accompany them to San Clemente Island 75 miles of the coast of San Diego for their graduation exercises. This was to be for one month. We sailed out and set up camp on the shore. The weather was almost perfect and one could lie on the beach for hours.”

“The whole trip was a great escape from daily routine but it was a long lonesome time being away from the family for that period. Getting home was a joy as everything had gone smoothly in my absence.”

“The concrete floors of the house we were living in created a problem for Mother as she spent her day chasing children and doing house work on them. We found a rental house in Coronado with 4 bedrooms and 4 baths. We moved in and hired a girl to help with the household duties as the birth of our last child became closer. Our darling daughter Susie was born June 17, 1954. … Not only did we have 5 hale and healthy children but now we had a 'read head'!! ”
